Garden Gnomes

What A Gnome Looks Like

When most people see a gnome they might think of one of the Seven Dwarfs. Gnomes are like miniature people, and they often wear a long pointed cap, much like the one a fictional wizard would wear.

A large number of gnomes are male in nature. However, often times gnomes appear in statue as a male and female couple.

Additionally, these gnome couple statues may be designed with the characters wearing different outfits-either formal or casual. They are created to appear as being involved in different situations, such as dancing, resting, gardening, or traveling.

Types Of Gnomes

Garden gnomes come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Some of them are larger and can be placed in the front of a home-perhaps in a flower garden. Smaller gnomes might be placed in a small portable outdoor flower bed or vegetable garden.

Garden gnomes can be arranged in a way that they tell a story. For instance, some garden gnomes might be good and some might be considered evil, and perhaps there can be a gnome “battle scene” of good triumphing over evil.

Other gnomes are funnier in nature, and the placing of these in gardens could tell a story. For instance, perhaps some gnomes that are placed in gardens might be located near a decorative or functional back yard bridge near a walk.

In fact, there is such thing as lighted gnomes. These particular small persons will usually be holding a lantern in their hand, which usually contains a real light. These lighted gnomes sometimes are used to illuminate a small home path to the front or rear of a home.

Other gnomes-both lighted and non-lighted-are meant to be hung from a tree. Other ones are standing in front of a “welcome” sign and are often placed in a landscape scene which is created in the front of a home.

Materials That Gnomes Are Made From

A large number of gnomes are made from ceramic. However, if a homeowner or professional landscaper chooses to do so, they can incorporate the use of stone, plastic, or wood gnomes in to a garden theme. It all depends upon the desires of the homeowner and/or the availability of different works of art in a given area.
