Gazing Balls

Gazing balls have long been an object used traditionally by palm readers, wizards, and other workers of magic. For many people these objects have a spiritual significance.

That is not true in all cases, however. Some people just like the look of a clear (or colored) crystal ball, which sits in an indoor or outdoor garden.

Stands of most gazing balls are carefully constructed from a material such as stainless steel, precious metal, or even plastic. Although the most authentic gazing balls are made from crystal, quite a variety of them are made from other types of glass, Plexiglas, or other materials.

Variations Of Gazing Balls For The Garden

Gazing balls of different sizes have been known to look good in a garden. Variations of these ornaments include mosaic-styled ones as well as mirrored-styled gazing balls.

A large number of gazing balls come with a hand-painted base, which is sometimes attached to the crystal ball. Other times the base is sold as a separate piece and acts as a small stand on which the crystal ball (or other clear round ball) would sit.

Some crystal balls that you see in stores also might come with decorative items placed in the center of them. For instance, one gazing ball has bird buddies sitting inside it. Other times the outside of the ball may be colored with a transparent paint for extra effect (availability of these not certain, listed as a possibility).

Other gazing balls might have scenes inside them, just like a number of the snow globes might. In fact, some snow globes are electronic and allow the snow to drift inside continuously without any shaking of the gazing ball needed.

Other gazing balls that work with a power source are lighted. In fact, some variations of this lighted crystal balls act as lamps, giving off varying frequencies of light. Other materials such as water, “lava”, and a variety of other liquids are also used in the construction of some gazing balls, which act quite a bit like a soft-lit lamp.

One of the advantages of a lighted crystal ball would be that it can not only provide light, but the affect of this light is that of a mystic glow. This mysticism is typically the feeling people would get as they would gaze upon a crystal ball-even if it is for pleasure and not for spiritual reasons. (You gaze upon them at you own risk.)
